The Street Department has begun the annual process of leaf collection for the this fall. Oakland town residents are requested to have their leaves raked out to the curb of sidewalk for collection. Leaf collection will continue until November 15, 2024, weather permitting.
The Oakland Mayor and Town Council are currently seeking applications from interested residents to fill a vacancy on the Oakland Town Council. This is an excellent opportunity for civic-minded individuals to play a key role in shaping the future of our community.
To qualify, applicants must reside within the town limits of Oakland, be a registered voter, and be at least 21 years old. Interested residents should email a resume, CV, or letter of interest to [email protected]. Applications will be reviewed by the Mayor and Town Council. The selected candidate will serve until March 2026, the remainder of the vacant term.
We encourage anyone passionate about public service and community leadership to apply. The Town Council is responsible for making important decisions that affect the daily lives of Oakland residents, including local policies, infrastructure decisions, and economic development incentives. Submission

4th Street is closed at the bridge between the Hospital and Walmart until further notice. Please utilize 219 to travel north-south through town. The town is in the process of replacing the structure. The bridge is expected to be closed until early summer 2025.

A Great Small Town Christmas will kick off with a Light Up Night on Friday, November 29th at the Oakland B&O Museum. The event will start with a Walking Holiday Light Parade, led by Santa Claus starting at the Town Parking Lot. All are invited to participate in the walking parade as we make our way to the B&O Museum for the official tree lighting.
On Saturday, November 30, shop in Oakland for Small Business Saturday. Find discounts and promotions in shops all across town and visit your favorite nonprofit serving hot cocoa for the Cocoa Crawl in various businesses! Take a sleigh ride downtown and visit the Ruth Enlow Library for Story Walk.
