The 2024 Joy of Christmas Light Show at the Oakland Community Center, 14 N 8th Street Oakland, Maryland will start November 29 running from 5pm to 10pm nightly! The show starts at the top of each hour, with the last show starting at 9PM.
The show is created and produced from scratch by staff of The CHIPS Network in Oakland and is sponsored by several area businesses, individuals, and organizations.
Attention all Oakland water system customers: Due to the ongoing severe drought, Broadford Lake, our primary water reservoir, has reached critically low levels. To preserve our water supply and avoid relying solely on the Youghiogheny River, which is also dangerously low, immediate action from all customers is required.
At the October 7, 2024 public meeting, the Mayor and Town Council voted to introduce Ordinance 2024-04. The ordinance will increase Oakland water and sewer rates effective January 1, 2025. A public hearing for the ordinance’s adoption will be held during the November 4, 2024 5pm public meeting. Public comments may be emailed to [email protected] or made in person during the November 4 public hearing.

A Great Small Town Christmas will kick off with a Light Up Night on Friday, November 29th at the Oakland B&O Museum. The event will start with a Walking Holiday Light Parade, led by Santa Claus starting at the Town Parking Lot. All are invited to participate in the walking parade as we make our way to the B&O Museum for the official tree lighting.
On Saturday, November 30, shop in Oakland for Small Business Saturday. Find discounts and promotions in shops all across town and visit your favorite nonprofit serving hot cocoa for the Cocoa Crawl in various businesses! Take a sleigh ride downtown and visit the Ruth Enlow Library for Story Walk.
On Saturday, December 14, join us for A Great Small Town Christmas. Find discounts and promotions in shops all across town! Enjoy Soup & Santa, take a sleigh ride downtown and visit the Ruth Enlow Library for Story Walk.
Join us for Winter Fest on February 15, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Previous years have featured kids’ activities, store specials, live music and performances, the wine walk, and ice sculptures!
